ahaha.
I've been so busy with my daily routine on campus. well, not really. just to make it a little bit dramatic. :D
anyway...
i had read a great news about my lovely novelist Jonathan Stroud, yes, the one who created the bartimaeus trilogy. novels of the sarcastic djinny.
first, i have to tell you guys about why i love this novel so much! maybe i had told you on some later posts, but, i have to tell it again i guess. :)
Well, i really love the way Jonathan Stroud describe Bartimaeus and the other characters in this book. Bart is a djinn who loves to give his master sarcastic comments, he's arrogant, he hates most wizard except Ptolemy. Jonathan wrote the dialogue of Bart in a nice way and it's totally amusing. :) Readers will be laugh-out-loud-ing when reading his words. Ow, i'm promise this book won't disappoint you guys! Read it.
Here's some review i got from a few sources...
"It is 950 B.C.E., and King Solomon rules Jerusalem with a steely hand; a hand on which gleams a magic ring of immense and unforgiving power. Solomon has just begun work on his marvelous temple, charging Khaba, a formidable magician in his royal court, to oversee its construction. The workforce is an ill-behaved bunch of demons, a particularly unruly djinni named Bartimaeus among them. True to form, Bartimaeus promptly gets kicked off the temple project and assigned the even more miserable task of hunting bandits in the desert. There he crosses paths with Asmira, a highly skilled and loyal captain of the Queen of Sheba’s guard, on a suicidal mission to save her country from Solomon’s imminent attack. Of course, Bartimaeus has no intention of helping her. That is, until Asmira makes him an offer he cannot refuse. . . .
A spellbinding addition to Jonathan Stroud’s New York Times bestselling Bartimaeus audiobooks, The Ring of Solomon brims with dazzling wit, unforgettable characters, and powerful themes of freedom and slavery, with or without magical bonds."
"A few days ago I wrote an article Banned Books Week: The Amulet of Samarkand featuring the amazingly fun work of Jonathan Stroud.
I did some poking around the internet(s) to make sure my research was correct. I don’t like to offend people unless there is merit to it. At any rate, I also ran across this little gem: Jonathan Stroud is publishing a fourth book to the Bartimaeus trilogy!
It is titled The Ring of Solomon!
Throughout the trilogy, the djinni Bartimaeus left footnotes behind that alluded to many aspects of his 5000+ year history of being used by magicians for their own ends. Readers grew more and more curious about the past of Bartimaeus and the adventures that came before. Great fodder for great stories. It appears as though Jonathan Stroud has decided to tell some of those adventures, taking the setting of this next novel back before the birth of Christ.
Here is the summary for The Ring of Solomon by Jonathan Stroud:
Bartimaeus, everyone’s favorite (wise-cracking) djinni, is back in book four of this best-selling series. As alluded to in the footnotes throughout the series, Bartimaeus has served hundreds of magicians during his 5,010 year career.
Now, for the first time, fans will go back in time with the djinni, to Jerusalem and the court of King Solomon in 950s BC. Only in this adventure, it seems the great Bartimaeus has finally met his match. He’ll have to contend with an unpleasant master and his sinister servant, and runs into just a “spot” of trouble with King Solomon’s magic ring….
I am really excited about this new book. I’ve been reading some heavy epic fantasy recently and this fun, young adult novel is the antidote to bring me back to balance!"
